Picked up a 72 3/4 4x4 Burb
4 Attachment(s)
Spotted this guy for sale about 30 minutes from me. Unfortunately I was back East for work and had to buy it in the blind. I was very happy with it once I picked it up. I think they only made 1379 3/4 4X4 Suburban’s in 1972. This one seems to have had some work done 15-20 years ago. It runs and drives. Has a bad exhaust leak and the engine seems weak. SPID is intact, stock radio hole and roof and cowl are solid which are all requirements for me. I have a set of steel 8 lug wheels and 3/4 ton hubcaps in my parts stash which will be going on first. Next on the list is some window regulator and door latch work. Going with a 15” stock blue steering wheel and a few other clean up items for the interior. Pulling the window tint off ASAP as well. Finally I’m going to try and track down a 71-72 350 in good running shape for it that I can detail to stock looking condition.

Cool find. I know you'll do it right. I might have a few burb things I wont be using for my panel. Shoot me a text if you think of something you need.

Not sure what you mean by engine seems weak. I would do a compression and vacuum check on it first thing. That would tell a lot on engine condition. I would do some checking before I replaced it. Could be bad plugs, ignition problems, or fuel problems. My Red/White '71 Chevy pickup didn't seem to have much power when I first got it and I finally traced it down to the fuel sock on the in tank pickup tube. Replaced that and blew out the fuel lines and it ran great after that. Just some thoughts. LockDoc |

Had a major snag being gone for work most of this year so far. Got home last week and have been hitting it pretty hard. Picked up all my goodies from the powder coated. Before I left for work, I had finished the front suspension for the most part. Redhead steering box and Rightway springs with an added leaf pack. Hoping to have it running and driving in the next few weeks. I decided to replace the engine wiring harness so, I’m waiting on that now.

I installed steel 8 lug wheels powder coated white and some 3/4 hubcaps I had laying around. Looks much better. I also bought new bumpers, carpet and a stock style 15” steering wheel.

Could you post a pic of the 15'' wheel installed? What is your impression of it? does it feel good quality?

Thanks guys and thanks Mark for all the parts you’ve helped me out with. I’m having the tailgate painted to match and when I decide to do new tires, I’ll powder coat the wheels you gave me so, I can get rid of the 16.5’s. I really like the steering wheel. I have always ran Comfort Grips in all my rides from my Chevelle to my 78 Jimmy I had. These just feel better and not as skinny. Quality is impressive. Not the best picture of the steering wheel but, it’s the only one on my phone.

Well, I ran into a few snags with the Suburban but, thanks to Randy Lucero aka Randy500; things seem to be back on track. I purchased the engine from someone here on the forum and lets just say it was not great. Cam was wiped out and no compression. Anyway, by the time I got this thing running I had about 2 weeks left until I had to go back to work outside of the country for 10 weeks. As I type this, I'm sitting in my hotel room on day 12 of my quarantine period before I can even start work. I was finishing up some major home projects (converting my three single garage door garage to two 16' garage doors). I was a bit tired from tackling projects on my break and I knew I did not have time before I left to tear back into the Suburban. Randy came recommended to me a few years back when Keith (praiseguitarman) had him install factory A/C in his Blazer. Keith told me the quality of craftsmanship was excellent and done quick. I do not know how Randy does it but, he can crank out impressive work in short order. Anyway, I decided to leave the Suburban with him before I left out of town for work. He has a contact for an old school engine rebuilder. The guy knocked out a stock long block rebuild for $1200. He already has the engine back in it and running again. Sounds and looks great! I hate tapping out on projects but, with as busy as I have gotten in the last few years I've found it really is worth it to get a helping hand and keep a project moving forward instead of getting burnt out.

My garage project I had going on at the same time as the Suburban engine install. This was one of the larger home projects I've tackled on my own. I rented a beam jack to get those glulam beams up. I took advantage and went up 1' so, I have 8' tall doors now and did the direct drive openers so, there is no overhead garage door opener. Really cleaned up the ceilings. Finished it right before I left.

The suburban is looking very nice! The garage door project turned out really nice as well!

Re: Picked up a 72 3/4 4x4 Burb
Looking great, both projects! I went down to Frank and Wes's last Friday picking up more parts for my C30 and I was going to stop in at Randy's to check out your Burb, but by the time I finished down there it was ugly Friday traffic and I was over the sitting and going nowhere. I cut over to Puyallup and went that way home (still got some traffic) to avoid the N bound I-5 mess.
