front brake install advice needed
1 Attachment(s)
Ive been restoring my 66 for a while and I am at the brakes. The disc conversion was done by a shop in 2005 and it turned out great, plenty of stopping power and all. In 2015 I started the tear down and took pics along the way. I cleaned up the calipers and painted them and stored them. The rotors had been turned not long before I tore things down in 2015 so I left that alone and stored it. I stored the components also and Im pretty sure I should just replace the lines and all so I could use some help identifying what I have so I can order the right parts. I used rock auto 1972 c10 3.0L specs to select the pads, hope I got that part right. They look the same, I think I need to reuse the 2 clips on the old ones. Ive watched this video assuming its pretty similar to what Ill need to do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDIQHtgCASA Ill attach some pics and hopefully its enough to go by for any help you can offer. Here is a pic of the components I took out of storage. Looks like I am missing a banjo bolt but I should probably order new ones anyway. |

Also wanted to mention that I did download the 1972 shop manual and I assumed it would work to use it as the instructions. But Im not certain what I have as the conversion parts are 1972 or not. Here's a page ex

The pads should be fine as long as they are the same as your old ones.
The calipers- I hope you are lucky.....as you probably know brake fluid attracts and retains moisture. So, there is a good chance that they are rusty inside. Banjo bolts and the rubber lines are cheap and good insurance to replace. Sorry I can't help more, it looks like a pretty straightforward re-install. |
Re: front brake install advice needed
My luck has been decent on most things but this truck is a different story. I guess for the insurance to just replace them then. The 1972 settings on RockAuto show these as an additional rust protector type. And from the looks its the ones I have now.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...029934&jsn=522 I was hoping for something that the shop manuals showed a step for step for exactly what I have since I have never dealt with brakes before. The 1972 shop manual talks about rubber boots on the pins and such and these just dont have them. If you all know of a reference that may be closer to what I have please pass it along. |

They used that caliper from 72 up until they went Metric. It looks like the calipers come with new banjo bolts.
