Gauge issues
I’ve read all the past gauge threads and haven’t been able to find my answer..
presently all my gauge lights , tac, and mechanical oil pressure work but nothing else.. I’ve replaced fender fuses, Headlight switch, ignition switch and circuit membrane .. Gas, battery, temp are dead.. It was a factory gauge truck but no tac... Is it possible I have 3 individual problems .. I’ve been under this dash for weeks my back is killing me lol.... |
Re: Gauge issues
Each of these issues is going to stem from 1 of 3 things.
Bad sender. For coolant and gas, you can touch the wire directly to ground and it should pin the gauge. Broken wire or bad connection. Either an ohm test or continuity test on the wire that connects to the sender, and the plug that connects to the back of the gauge. Make sure all connections are clean. Bad gauge. Should be able to wire them up independent of the gauge cluster. |
Re: Gauge issues
Always... always.... always..check the ground
lots and lots of DC circuit issues are bad grounds your mechanical gauges don't need a power source and ground.... the electric ones do do your instrument lights work when you turn on the headlights? |

Re: Gauge issues
I noticed on my ignition switch harness the plastic clip not wires have some melting on the side of the accessory wires... The plastic clip is also broken on that side.
Is there away of pulling out the wires and just replacing the plastic clip instead of splicing in a new pigtail.. |
Re: Gauge issues
Should be able to. There is usually a tab on the metal tab that hold it in the plastic clip.

Re: Gauge issues
If it wasn't clear the metal tab I was talking about, here is a link with an image of the connector. That tab sticking out will hold it in place, Usually can push a small pick in there the fold down the tab and pull the connector out.
