Vintage GM license plate by years?

I know there are some members that know these well, (trevor comes to mind) but does anyone know the years these plates were first used?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Vintage GM license plate by years?

I'm no expert but I think the OK Used Cars ones are mid-60s. The gold letter USA-1 ones are from our trucks for sure. My '71 Custom Camper had one that I am sure had been on since new. I bought it from the original owner. The line of plates with the Built tough bowtie are novelty plates sold around 1990. The National Chevy/GMC Truck Assoc sold those out of the back of Pickups & Panels In Print. I think the one above to the left is of that group. The one on the right was from dealerships, as I recall. Maybe from the 69-72 era and later.. We'll see what others say. I may be wrong on some.

Building a better way to see USA is correct for the 72 model year. Just an FYI recently eBay has a crummy looking facsimile of this plate.

I’ve got one or two USA-1 plates that are steel not aluminum. Old but unsure of intended model year.

Very helpful, thanks. I still don't see one for the "Chevrolet building a better way". (first pic, center) That is a heavy steel plate with green backside.

“totally tougher to last longer chevrolet” for 1972. I can find advertisements with that slogan but no plate examples.

Re: Vintage GM license plate by years?

The different usa1 tags were used through 71. 72 is correct. I believe your other one is the 74’ variant. 66-67 usa1 plates are cardboard. Trevor

Let’s post pics of period vehicles to confirm. I can’t find a USA-1 for 71-72.

I have the correct 71’ USA1 tag on my Chevelle. The 70’ plates bring a premium to the muscle car crowds.

Nice! I should clarify. I’m curious when the Stars and Stripes USA-1 plate appeared.

This example for 1969 (?) already surpassed $400: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1970-U...0AAOSwTphd1J85

Late ‘69-70’ Notice the font in the bow tie compared to the early ones. Also, 69’ is blue backed, 70’ is green backed.

That's a beautiful rig.

Are you able to drive around in Wisconsin without getting messed with by the police? I've thought about running something similar, but don't want to get pulled over. As you probably know...Wisconsin is a two-plate state.

Thanks so much. It’s the bugs that are making a mess of Blazer :) I didn’t have many after riding highways in NM. It’s a gorgeous area here and I really like taking weekend drives.

Honestly, I’ve decided to try begging forgiveness from LE if I do get pulled over. I might bolt the front plate on for an extended trip. I held out registering the trucks here until the NM tags were set to expire. I’d really like to run YOM plates but that doesn’t seem to be an option. The collector plate is a close match to medium blue at least.

My dad at Evertt Chevorlet in Hickory NC after winning the sales of the most trucks for the year in the Charlotte Zone. He won the little Honda. The picture was taken in 71. He is 94 now. We took that truck, camper on a 3 week vacation that year. Dad was fleet truck sales manger back then for the GM zone office in Charlotte.
The sign on the door say See America but can't make out the last word.

I wished I had more pictures of this.
