70 GMC C2500 coilover?
 

Hi Guys

Im asking this on behalf of a friend, he has a 70 GMC C2500 BB.

He asked me if this is original to the car and im not really sure to be honest

Could someone answer if this spring over the strut is original to the car or the work of the PO. From my knowledge, it was leaf springs and strut only without this spring

They’re not “OEM” , but they’re good shocks to mitigate the bouncy rear end.
I put Gabriel Coil Overs front and back on mine and am very pleased.
No more “Diving in the Corners” or “Bouncing Rear End” after going over a RR tracks bump of that sort.
Bottom line is they’ll firm up the ride and handling without doing mods to the suspension.

BTW, my truck is a 70 C-10, Stock height, and pretty much stock everything else, but the Rims and Tires.

Im asking about the blue coil spring around the shock, is that OEM? Iv never seen anything like it before

Sorry, they still didn't open for me. But I think I understand without them. No "overload" shocks weren't factory but were a common upgrade. I have them on the rear of my 97 Z71.

I see them. Custom 10nut answered your question. Those are a complete unit purchased as you see them. You named them correctly. They are coil-over shocks and they are an aftermarket upgrade. On second glance, it may be that these are add-on coils to use on existing regular shocks to add the coiul-over feature. I see the clamp, which I doubt would be how Gabriel would have mounted them.

These trucks, not cars, use shock absorbers, as did all US made vehicles that are rear RWD. The term strut comes from McPherson Struts that came along on foreign FWD vehicles, then eventually US brands that switched over to FWD. So it's trucks with shocks, not cars with struts.
