Continued progress on the 50

Missed my fall deadline to have this done. Is now spring. Coming together but frustrated on not having done a better job of cataloging parts. Spent a lot of time looking for this or that after disassembly four years ago. Paint came out satin instead of flat, but looks pretty good. Runs, everything works and now doing final assembly and wiring.

Not sure why the pics are laying down

I got dizzy trying to look at them sideways so I rotated them for you.

That is becoming one sweet truck.

I'd have it may be personal preference on the gauge locations. I have three rigs in the yard with round speedos and tachs and two have the speedo on one side and the other has it on the opposite. No big deal if you are comfortable with it the way you have it.

Thanks for the help on rotating. Have not decided whether the speedo will be left or right. Dulling all the chrome and stainless so that it looks brushed rather than shiny. Goal is to have a truck i can drive all the time and not worry too much about ergo the flattened paint and bright work. I used bed liner inside all the fenders, the running boards, and underneath the cab. POR 15 on the frame, etc.

Can’t wait to drive it.

Started my first AD truck in Wichita in 1977. Was a 1951 project that got sold when kids started popping out. Lots of cool hot rodders and drag racers there

I'd have to say that the speedometer being on the left or right side has to go is fully due to your personal preference and where you are comfortable with it being unless a mechanical cable dictates that it be in one spot or the other.

I'm not a big fan of the old and tired look when it comes to stuff on the dash. I have lived with that so long I am ready for bright and shiny.

I love your truck, the paint turned out great. I have been considering a satin paint but have been chicken to actually spray it.

Nice little grocery getter. The color looks great. That radio looks like the one I have been looking at. How do you like the fit & finish, quality?

Radio is OK. Custom Auto Sound 740. I have good speakers behind the original grill, 6x9 Rockford Fosgate in the corners, and a RF subwoofer under the seat. Should so a better job than the original

My only problem is that the stereo head shiny stuff is chromed plastic that looks a little cheesy, Not horrible but my plan is to dull all the chrome and stainless on the truck, including the grille and bumpers to give it a satin (brushed) look and won’t really be able to do that with radio as I imagine attempts would just reveal the plastic underneath.

The face looks like an old AM radio until you power it up and then has a digital readout that overpowers the AM looking face

Thanks NorCalGal. I really wanted to have it a little flatter but the semi gloss is growing on me. The reducer agitation is the key. The bed panels and tail gate are a little shinier because the reducer was not shaken long enough. The key is to shake it as long as you think you need to, then shake it that long again. The reason I went with the flatter paint is that I have a 55 Chevy sedan that I built and since it is 1/2 mile of dirt each way to the paved road from my house, it gets dirty or dusty everywhere, every time you drive it. I think the satin finish will help me not worry about the dirt as much (I hope) and will not avoid driving it the way I do the 55 (attached)

Looking great.
Question on your upholstery. Looks way better than a kit. Did you have it upholstered? That's just the look I am after.

House of covers did the seats for me in Albuquerque. I picked out the leather looking vinyl. The seat frames needed work and needed to be rebuilt as the drivers side after 70 years had started to sag. There is a bunch of burlap stuff in between the scram coils that helps keep it all together. . They fixed all that, upholstered the seats and put it all together. Cost about 800 bucks. Way comfortable and worth every penny

Awesome color. I bet you're careful moving around the truck now that its painted! I'd be afraid tto scratch something in my confined garage when working on the details.

That 55 looks like a twin to one one of my first students in 1978 just finished last summer. A several year project that he did everything except the paint and upholstery himself with a 454 and 4 speed.

Very nice.

Everyone has red, turquoise, black, etc. I thought the silver and white looked good. Have seen several done that way in different parts of the country

I like it!

Congrats! It looks awesome! Post some more pics and vid if you can.

Also, I know the paint was discussed a while back, but mine is also a satin finish and I think you'll be super happy with it that way and probably be glad it turned out that way after a little bit of time. I get a lot of compliments on it and I'm certain you will too.
