Blazer roll bar

My husband Ken is building a custom roll bar this week for our blazer. He is building it out of 1-7/8" round schedule 80 aluminum. It will be a double roll bar that will have one roll bar over the front seats that will be close enough to attach shoulder belts to, and one roll bar that will protect the rear seat also. I am going to be drawing up the exact plans for it in Autocad, so I will be able to make a set of plans that can be duplicated and rebuilt by the welding shop of your choice. Just want to test the waters and see how many guys would be interested in a set of plans, and/or a custom roll bar built. I will post pics as he is building it and finished product pics. It WILL fit under the hardtop, and will be brushed finish aluminum, but also could be steel that is either painted or powdercoated. I will let you know a price too if anyone is interested in him building one for them. Sorry for the long post, and hopefully I will have something to post later this week.

Hey Diane,

I would be interested in the plans. I also have AutoCad on my computer, but it's an older version. Maybe a .DXF file would work too.

Thanks for the post

Paul

That would be sweet. Except I want it to come up to the dash to give some support

SteedaLX 12-09-2003 11:11 AM

I am looking to buy one from www.swracecars.com, but I also like your idea. If you get it made in the next week or so post some pics and I may be interested. Thanks

I would definitely be interested. I'm running a soft top, so it would have to clear all the supports and such...But it should be fine it the hard top fits.

I'd be interesed in the plans.

I will keep you guys posted. He is starting fabrication tomorrow hopefully. We had some setbacks as he has to do the work on his "free" time and has had lots of work to do lately. Glad to see all the interest.

Definitely interested in plans and pics. Loved watching your blazer come together.

Cethern 01-03-2004 02:07 AM

Are you going to connect the two bars? I have been thing of a full cage of some sort. Something that goes all the back and all the to front with at lest two spredder bars. well it could be four.with a bar going in front of the dash and one just behind the seats down low so you can mount the belts.
when you get done post pic I like alot of us would like to see a pic of it.

I would be interested in the design, especially if it ends up being one integrated cage. I have seen pics of a rolled Gen I, and it was not pretty! I am looking for a full cage to protect the back seat passengers, too.

I would be interested in the plans also. We have been trying to find the "perfect" roll bar.

Finally pics!!! Plans to come soon if enough guys are interested

Here are the pics of the roll bar my hubby Ken built today. It isn't quite finished as he is going to be putting some alum. gussets in and polishing it up. Looks pretty cool now I think! Nice and safe for the back seat too!!!!

Your right it is sweet

Very nice indeed

It looks like it will just protect the back seats...If so do you plan on something for the fronts as well?

That looks really good, can't wait to see it installed

2wdBlazer 02-08-2004 06:17 PM

Great job fabricating but it will be a real eye sore with the top off. SHould work perfect for you because I know you have kids to keep safe.

JayDubBlazer 02-09-2004 12:55 PM

I don't think it will be an eye sore it is shiny so should help it look cool

smokekiki 02-09-2004 12:56 PM

Do You run with the top off?As far as being an eye sore,I like the looks of a toppless truck with a roll cage. The only thing I would consider is adding a front hoop that goes up,and across the windshield, and ties in with 2 runners along the roof to the main hoop.Would give it a complete cage.

Yukon Jack 02-09-2004 01:25 PM

Sure looks great to me. I will want to do this in the future to protect my kids.
