Step for my '72 Blazer 4x4
 

I'm sure this may have been discussed before, but I'm wanting to install some steps on my '72 Blazer 4x4. I do not want to install full nerf bars. I'm sure someone has done these before. Where is the best place to get these and what do I mount them to?

I made mine. They are mounted to the rocker panel reinforcement. That panel is more than heavy enough to mount to. I like them because they are small and discrete. I use them everytime getting and out.

Found mine cheap, so I used them (first pic). Wish I could find some like the second pic. Mounted to the rocker box. Both are the Carr aluminum steps.

Hemi do you have more pics? both up close and further away to see the whole truck?

honestly never been a big step fan on these trucks (no offense to anyone that likes them) but I think yours may be my favorite. Much lower profile and less obnoxious than others i've seen.

I used Bully bolted to the torque boxes. Small but work.

Mike Cofield reproduced the K5 GM accessory steps - maybe he has some left? An open loop scares me in that if you slipped and wedged your leg inside of it that both bone tib-fib fracture would hurt bad and dangling there waiting to be extracted would be excruciatingly long.

I thought about this as well. I had nerf bars on a 89 Burb. I slipped and wedged my foot. I didn't break anything but twisted my ankle pretty good

How hard is it to access the top of that rocker box?

Take the rear torque box cover off and use long arms to reach in to either drop bolts with washers in the holes you drilled or vice versa. The Bully steps have one hole drilled for a bolt and another for a smaller self tapping metal screw for each mount. I redrilled for bolts and used large washers inside the torque boxed to spread the load. I like Hemi 43’s fabricated steps-pretty heavy duty. I also like the GM accessory type but the Bully sufficed for me. If my wife didn’t need the step to get in, I wouldn’t have any.

Like rsavage suggested, I unbolted the rear torque box cover for access. This might be difficult if yours are original though.
