The Discovery Phase Continues
1 Attachment(s)
Still working out kinks in 'Ol Blue... I've changed out spark plugs (they were nasty) along with wires. I also changed the in-carb fuel filter which honestly looked really clean.
She idles beautifully and does great at low speed ~35mph. If I go too fast, she will bog out and die and it's super hard to get her started again. I have a carb rebuild kit on the way... the truck sat for quite awhile so that may be part of the problem. I've run 3 tanks of fuel so it isn't bad gas but who knows what trash may have been in the tank. I don't want to drop the tank just yet. I dove into the glovebox and found the original warranty pamphlet from the dealer in 1977 along with the maintenance schedule. Nifty stuff! |
Re: The Discovery Phase Continues
Check the rubber lines from the tank(s) to the frame and from the dual tank valve(if equipped) to the frame. Your symptoms are similar to what my 75 did when the original valve to frame hose started crumbling away. Air gets into the system and breaks the suction. It finally got bad enough that it died backing out of the driveway before I thought to check that out of sight hose.
Mice can also cause the same problem if they decide that hose is worth taste testing. |
Re: The Discovery Phase Continues
Could the tank possibly not be venting properly? Would cause the flow to slow down/stop until the pressure equalized again.
