Dropped spindles and 15" wheel, what clears best?

Just like it says. Years ago I had some Belltechs on a 70 chevy project and could only fit 15x7s. I want to do 15x8 wheels up front and want to lower my 79 with a 4/6 drop. Haven't decided if I'm going to use steel wheels or aluminum. Still looking at what's available. Thanks

I do believe you have to do some grinding on the a-arms

3" DJM drop spindles from Summit seem to work good.

I have not done any on mine yet, but depending on the wheel you use, you may have to grind down the caliper and/or the lower a-arm some. If you use a stock 8" rally (4" back space) you will probably need to trim. A stock 7" rally (3.5" backspace) normally can get by with out trimming anything. Normally unless you run a skinny wheel/tire combo up front, you will have to grind on the caliper and lower a-arm.

i would stay away from djm drops, really i would stay away from djm for any parts as i seen many issues that ppl have had with their spindles an other parts. But if you want to run 15x8 rallies the only spindle that the wheel wont rub on is the western chassis 2.5" spindle as i personally had them on my 84

Thanks guys. I was actually leaning towards Western Chassis but wanted more info. I seem to recall something about the 2.5" drop spindles having better clearance than the 3" drop.

Still uncertain of wheels but any 15x8 wheel up front will be a 4" backspacing.

I ran my stock 15x8 rally's with McGaughys 2.5" spindles on my '77, only had to trim the lower control arm.

On a different note, I tried stock aluminum wheels on my dropped '90 SS back in the day and they were thicker and the truck wouldn't even roll, stock SS steelies cleared fine.

I used Belltech spindles on my 87 with 8" rallies. I had to trim the lower control arm a little to clear the rim.

One other option is the CPP Modular series. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp-cp30106-4 They do offer them for both the 1" or 1.25" rotor setup. They also require a caliper bracket https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp-6087dbk Now if you ever decide you want bigger brakes, these spindles will accept them with a bracket change and corresponding hub. If you shop around you can find the spindles cheaper on EBAY. These spindles also are supposed to keep the stock track width, where all other drop spindles widen it.

With stock 15x8 rally's you'll need to trim the lower A-Arm, and the outter tierod might clip the wheel weights if they are on the inside. Quite a few folks in our club really like these cause it doesn't push wthe wheel outboard, which can leaed to outer fender interferrence with big wheels/tires.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I was hoping to not have to grind the A- arm. What if I went with 18s or 20s?.

Re: Dropped spindles and 15" wheel, what clears best?

Should not be an issue. You'll just have to watch your width and backspacing to make sure you don't rub on inside of fenders.

Yeah I have already looked into what others are using for the same sizes and have a good idea of what fits. Thanks

I am running 2.5" Western Chassis drop spindles with 8" ralley wheels and have no issues with rubbing up front

Re: Dropped spindles and 15" wheel, what clears best?

I can tell you that the CPP modular spindle with a 15” late model aluminum wheel does not fit. No matter how much you grind. I did not have a steel wheel to try at the time.

Adding to this, CPP modular spindles do not push the wheels out all all like typical drop spindles which I’m sure is the reasoning for the 15” wheel not working with light grinding

Re: Dropped spindles and 15" wheel, what clears best?

With Western Chassis 2.5" dropped spindles, my OEM 15x8 rally wheels clear the lower control arms by around 3/8", as I recall. Truck is an 82 C10. I bought them based on what I had learned from others on this and another truck forum.
