Power Brakes Booster Switch
3 Attachment(s)
What's up guys? Got a question for everyone, does anyone know what this switch is for? It came with my truck 64 fleetside lwb. I'm not sure that it even works but it connects to my brake master cylinder.
I think it's some sort of power brake switch? Maybe for stopping when towing? Here is a pic of my truck and the switch. By the way I have drums all the way around but that is soon to change shortly. Going with the disc/drum setup. |
Re: Power Brakes Booster Switch
I plan on going with this kit from Summit
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp-6370swbk-5d Along with this proportioning valve https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/631302/10002/-1 I'm just not sure if I should change the master cylinder out to the one with a large/small bowl? And do away with this switch? I think the m/c I have now is from a mid 70's Nova but it's been over 3 years since my truck has been on the road and it took a couple of trips to O'Riley's to get one that would work with my original push rod. |

If you look to the area where the arrow is pointing you can see that the booster and M/C sits offset at an angle. When any of you guys did your conversion did you have to change this?

Re: Power Brakes Booster Switch
When you switch to discs on the front you will need a disc/drum master cylinder. The only master cylinder that I know of that might work with that booster and it's long intermediate pushrod is a '68-'76 Corvette master cylinder. Even though it is designed for a disc/disc system, many people use them on disc/drum systems. I would suggest an adjustable prop valve with it so that you can dial in your brake bias. The other option would be to remove the original booster and it's bracket and use one of my booster brackets with an off the shelf disc/drum booster and master.
Yes you can eliminate the trailer brake controller and it's plumbing if you do not need it. |

Re: Power Brakes Booster Switch
That should not be on there. The double flare provides the seal.
