Rebuilding suspension and upgrading to disk brakes 1965 C20
I'm upgrading to disc brakes on my C20 with the 2,5" drop kit from POL. And during disassembly it is becoming obvious that the suspension needs a rebuild, or is it normal with some play in the threads of the steel bushings?
Is it correct that I can use the upper controll arm shaft from an up to 91 3/4 ton? See there are several options on rockauto.com, are there a lot of difference beteen the different brands? For the lower controll arm it looks like replacement shafts aren't available, mould the bushings from the newer shafts work or are there a source for the bushings only? |
Re: Rebuilding suspension and upgrading to disk brakes 1965 C20
The steel bushings should have just a little play due to the design. I do not know about using a newer upper shaft for sure, but I would think they should work. I do believe the bushings are the same for the C20/30's from '63-'87? If your lower shafts are worn too badly, you would have to find a set of good used shafts. Those were used for '63-'66 C20/30 only.

Thanks for the reply, the shafts looks ok, and the play isn't terrible but I can feel it. Only used to rubber bushings where the same amount of play would be to much. Are there any specs on how much play is acceptable?
Would be a bummer to buy new parts if the bushing play stays the same. |

I honestly do not know if there are any specs on the acceptable tolerances on the shafts and bushings. Keep in mind that once you grease the bushings that will change slightly.
What area of Norway are you located in? We were there in August 2016. |

Yeah I have cleaned of the grease now, so I will try assemble them again and re-grease and see how they behave.
I live outside of Tønsberg, about 1,5 hours South of Oslo. Closest I've been to Idaho was the "Drive through tree" in northern California three years ago. Should probably not call that close though. |

I've been to Tønsberg. I wish we could have spent more time there. All we got to see was the old fort remains up on the hill. My Great-Great Grandfather was from the Svinndal area. We would like to go back again, but don't know if that will happen.
