Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Impressive. You have the knack. Does it still have a six in it?

Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
My gosh that must be a rare truck and it is still in such beautiful shape. It even has an auto.

Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside

Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Another one from your "time capsule" collection. Outstanding! It literally looks like a super clean original from 1970. Needless to say, not an easy find 5 decades later. Thanks again for sharing these invaluable reference photos for what a '66 GMC Wideside looked like in it's prime.

Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Fantastic truck! Thanks for sharing!

Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Hmmm, I guess it's ok. I mean, for an old truck with black paint.
Just kidding, Jon. What a gem! I can't imagine having this one in my back pocket for a decade and just recently pulling it out for reassembly. The extent and quality of your collection is mind boggling. Bravo! |
Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
I just can't fathom turning something that original and well optioned into a drag truck.
|
Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Well you have to look at things in 1970 perspective to understand it.

Mirror color on GMC's could almost warrant a new thread, don't believe it has ever been discussed on the forum. Hate to hijack this thread into a mirror thread. Telling the difference between a '64 and a '65 GMC is very difficult from old black and white photos, In my previous post, I noticed the green '66 has '65 hubcaps. This leads me to believe it is a early promotional shot and or the grill was doctored. I doubt of the mirror color was altered, so I would say the green '66 is actually a '65. The blue '64 sub looks legitimate with white arms and mirrors. There could have been a transition from white to silver in the middle of the '64 model run or '64's were white. Need to study more "all original paint '64 and '65 GMC's" and their assembly plants in the future. This photo is from a '65 GMC ad, and shows silver arms and mirrors.

Wondering if an upgrade to the custom cab with stainless trim around windshield would warrant a chrome or stainless side mirror on the GMC. My 64 GMC (Oakland Plant) has a stainless small left side mirror. It did not even have a factory inside rear view mirror or right side mirror.
|
Re: 1966 GMC Short Fleetside
Trim level did not effect color of arm and mirrors. Your '64 GMC was actually built in Fremont, not Oakland like some books claim. GMC were built in Fremont along side Chevy's starting in mid to late '63. Your '64 would have had a black arm and black mirror. Inside rear view and right side mirrors were options.

ID tag says GMC TRUCK DD 1002HF37--A Has a crayong mark of 720 under steering column on column seal plate. Anything else you can tell me with this? Sorry for hijacking the thread |
