HEI ignition fried I think
 
I was trying to tidy up a little under the dash and in doing so I unknowingly separated the ignition+ that goes to my Mallory HEI . It had an old butt connector that broke when tucking up wires and I tried and tried cranking her until I looked under the dash and saw the separated wires. Anyway I did some splicing and got it back together but the truck isnt getting a spark......mostly. It did fire up for 10 seconds after cranking and poking at the Batt connection on the distributor cap but then she dies again. now it just cranks and wont fire. its like I fried something while tuning her over with no juice to the distributor. Any Ideas fellas.

Measure the voltage to the HEI with a meter to start. Check for spark.

it is not getting a spark, I am thinking that the badly connected bat+ to the coil might have messed up the module maybe?
It did fire up for a few seconds after I soldered it together and then died and want start.

Like frankin said first check is to measure voltage. If you have 12 volts then you can do more checks.

You didn't fry the HEI by not providing power, it isn't possible. I'd venture to guess that you still don't have power. I'm betting that that wire is not carrying the current to the "BATT" connection.

What check would those be since the wire is hot and I still dont have spark?

Just hotwire it. Run a jumper wire from the battery + to the B+ terminal on the distributor. (I have a 6' piece of wire with alligator clips on each end just for this purpose). If you are not getting fire after this then the problem is in the distributor.

PS> depending on how the truck is wired, you may have to disconnect it to get it to die.
