Please help Large gap between steering wheel and column 1963 K-10
 

There’s a large gap between the steering wheel and the steering column so the turn signal cancel doesn’t work and everything’s loose anyone know a fix

There's a possibility that the steering gear box, if it is not the original one, could be pushing the steering shaft farther up the column. I have pretty much no experience with 4x4 trucks, but I'm sure someone else on here has the knowledge you need that I am lacking

Thanks I think it’s the original steering box, but I can check it again tomorrow.

I would pull the column and rebuild it. The only parts that wear are a couple of bearings. But, in order for it to become gapped something is worn out.

I will recommend the you reassemble it off the truck first (with the steering wheel on). The gap is closed up by pushing everything up the column to the steering wheel, then tightening the clamp at the lower bearing.

Ok I was going to rebuild it to see if that would fix it I’m going to redo the interior soon and was going to rebuild it then, but I might do it first.

If it's not a tilt the shaft is one piece to the coupler under the hood in post 6 pic 2. Check if the wheel is pulled up on the shaft. I'd look to see if the shaft is pulling out of the coupling there. I'd also look at the intermediate shaft and see if it was swapped for a collapsible one. I'd then look at the shaft to steering box connection to see if it's pulled partially apart.
I'm not sure how rebuilding the column is going to make the wheel fit closer.

There is a clamp on the shaft at the bottom of the column just before the velocity joint that keeps the shaft from doing what it’s doing unless sum thing is stopping it you should be able to push the steering wheel back down and then move the clamp up against the steering column and re-tighten

I’ve loosened all the clamps on the steering column and the shaft won’t move up or down. Everything looks like it’s original.

Like nsb29 said, loosen the shaft at the end of the column tube. Then push the tube up toward the steering wheel.
The shaft is one piece from the wheel to the steering box so it's not going to move. The column tube will.

Actually the steering shaft does not go straight through to the gearbox it has a velocity joint that’s like a U joint that slides in and out but as Rockenrod said you may be able to loosen the column and move it upward your just going to have to play with it you could make some measurements between your column and the one you’re comparing it to To see what the differences

Ok I can’t get it to slide up so I’m going to pull the column out and try to match them both up and rebuild it at the same time
