Column shift to floor shift tilt conversion
 

Has there been any threads on converting a column shift tilt to a floor shift tilt? Has anyone done this? It looks like I could replace the collar? And remove the tube where the linkage attached at the bottom end? I'm guessing they is more to it. Or is it easier to just buy a floor shift tilt?

If you can find the bowl, that’s the easier way. I think they’re rare tho.
I’ve done 2, and am doing a 3rd.
Epoxy works for the bowl. Lots of sanding and bodywork will make it look good. I cut off the shift lever at the bottom and weld the shift tube to the outer tube. Turn the collar to the manual 1st position and then weld it. Your bowl repairs won’t be facing up, which is good if your body skills aren’t perfect.
The upper collar is steel, but thin. Carefully weld that up. TIG with silicon bronze is great, but not totally necessary. The collar tends to shrink in the welded area. Typical for any sheet metal weld. I hammer/dolly that out some to minimize it and then body work it as well.

Thanks for the info. I'd rather go the way of switching out the collar since body work isn't my thing. Ultimately I'd like to just find a good floor shift column. Maybe I can find someone on here with one? Does anyone know if aftermarket columns are any good?
