trade for beer: 8' fleet bed, top mount tool boxes
i have an 8' fleet bed from an '84 i believe (single gas fill) that i was going to repair and use for my work truck, but ive decided that i like my flatbed better. its currently dismantled as i was working on it piece by piece, but all the parts are there. the steel is in decent shape with only a few rust patches in the rear of the wheel wells. the driver bedside is rusty because i stripped it down to bare steel and then the project stalled - its surface rust. anybody wants to come by my place in 21032 and take it, a case of Heineken in bottles and its yours.

Re: trade for beer: 8' fleet bed, top mount tool boxes
Question for you. Have only owned 68 to 72's prior to now. Thinking about buying a 77. The bed has a fair amount of rust and would rather replace it. I think there was a body design change in 80' but not sure about bed body style. To make a long question short, is a bed off an 84' exactly like a bed off a 77'. If so, I may have a cold case for you.
Thanks, Scott |
Re: trade for beer: 8' fleet bed, top mount tool boxes
Scott, im not the guy to answer your question, but perhaps someone who knows can chime in. i will say that i originally bought the box to go on a '76 k20. i got as far as putting the bed (without sides) onto the 76 frame. the front 2 holes didnt line up (front to back, width-wise they were good) so i drilled 2 new holes in my frame, and it bolted up fine. i cant sat how the sides would fit over the wheels, but as i recall they were centered in the wheel wells.

Re: trade for beer: 8' fleet bed, top mount tool boxes
I went back and re-read my build thread, and what i had done to make the '84 bed fit the '76 frame was to move the holes on the bed - not drill new holes in the frame. so, look under the '77 youre thinking of buying and see which bed cross sills are bolted to the frame in the front: 1st and 2nd, or 1st and 3rd. (see post #9 in thread link above)
