Tires
What are the biggest tires I can put on my 86 crew cab dually, its a 2 wd, and lifted about 2-3 inches. It has 16 " alcoas, with 265/75 on them now. I wanted to put 275/70, or 285/75, but the tire guy said the rims were to narrow. any help appreciated, Thanks

Re: Tires
285 would be fine. It is a narrower rim than recommended for that width, but so it is for your 265 as well.
I have a set of 36 12.5 16.5 Wrangler RTII (bias humvee tire) mounted on a set of 16.5" dually rims that I am going to fit on my K30. That's a 315 section width compareable tire. I had a set of 2 1/2" spacers made up for the rear to fit between the inner and outer wheels. They were made to order and they listed 2" or 3" and I wasn't sure what to get and asked about the 2 1/2". No additional charge for the custom width but I don't remember who made them now. It was harder to find the older truck setup than a newer one. The tire guy said he thought was too narrow and when I picked them up he was surprised about how well they fit. But an independent place. The chains may not mount that up for you. |

255/85/16 is just over 33" tall and skinny for the drw rims .
what ever tire tho make sure they dont rub sidewalls in rear . if they do you NEED the correct spacers with the hub centric ring machined on them . this guy has good product and there real nice and correct for this exact requirement . https://www.wheeladapter.com/ here was a k30 4x4 1ton of mine i tested 255/85/16 on a pair of rims and no spacer . its the narrow c&c axle also . if you have a pickup box and fender flares then you have more room to play with . note how close the inner tire is to the leaf spring . looks like a lot of side wall gap at the bottom but i couldn't get my finger in there . and thats no weight extra on the flatbed . |
