Door Lock in After Market Door
 

Anyone seen this?:
Pawl/(lock arm) is too long in the blue direction (it measures 1.25" long) and short in the red direction (the first pic is just for reference stolen from LocDoc. Thank you sir)
Pic 2 & 3 are my truck.
Parts are: '68 lock parts and a Good Mark after market door.

Cant believe the hole in the door is punched in the wrong spot.

I thought that grubby paw looked familiar... :).. There is a left and right to the lock pawls, are you sure you have the locks in the right doors. Maybe you only had one out though. There are also two different types of lock pawls. I will take a picture of the other style and post it in this post in a minute.


EDIT: Here is a picture of the two styles of lock pawls, I think the one you have is on the right. I have a door I can measure in the morning if that will help.

Your pawls both look like they're about the same length. Could you measure them for me?
You can see in the pics of my truck the arm goes past the fork in the latch and the other leg (colored red in the 1st pic) is too short. It's like waaayyyy off. Something's definitely not right.
If you could measure your door and pawls for me that would be great. thank you

Sorry, I forgot to do that.

The tang on the pawls without the offset are 1/8" longer. I don't think that is your problem though. If they are sitting in the latch correctly that length wouldn't make any difference. I think either that is the wrong cylinder for that side or the cylinder is not inserted in the door in the correct orientation. There should be notches in the door so that the cylinder will only fit in the hole one way. The lock cylinders are all the same but the pawls are left and right.

Thought I would post where the problem was with the lock pawl lengths incase anyone else runs into this. Seems the distance from the edge of the door to the face where the door latch assembly mounts is off inward (towards the front) by ~1/4". This makes the pawl too long to catch the latch. The hole in the door was in the correct spot relative to the edge of the door. I know all this because i had my original doors to compare everything to. Bottom line is I had to modify the pawl to shorten it. I hate aftermarket.

Wow! I've never heard of that one before. That would definitely be a nightmare for some people to try and figure out. Glad you got it fixed.
