Pads under hood braces
I was just talking to my body shop guy. He's been working on my hood. I had given him some pads I bought from LMC but he says they were useless and he put something thicker under the braces temporarily when he was sanding it to hold the metal more firmly. I'm wondering if I should look for something thicker to use at reassembly? Wondering what others have done?

Re: Pads under hood braces
I think there is a folded piece of cardboard under one of mine, lol. There when I got the truck.
I'd say find something that's the right size, works, looks ok, and get it in there. Some sort of closed cell weatherstrip foam in black would be my choice. |
Re: Pads under hood braces
I bought a set that melted from the heat under the hood. Some areas were to tight to fit them in and some had to much gap and the pieces would just fall out.

While I'm on this can someone look at the picture of the #15 grouping? The l shaped pieces go under the front corners with a Philips screw, the rectangular pieces rivet to the brackets that bolt under the hood at the firewall. But where do the small round ones go?

Re: Pads under hood braces
Thanks for that image. It made me realize that I was missing the brackets that hold the rear rubber hood supports in place. I found a set of new rubber supports in my spare bolts box and could not figure out why the holes in the rubber piece didn’t line up with the bolt holes in the hood. I am assuming that when the hood was painted they never gave be back the brackets after taking them off. Gurrrrrr
