And some change ago, I bought my K20. Man how time flies. It’s been an awesome time driving it a little once I got it running, then tearing it down to the frame and building it back up. For the handful that follow my build thread, they saw on Saturday night That I drove it home for the first time in 3 years. I tore the truck down in February and early March of 2017 to finish some rust repair in the floors, cab corners and rockers. I also went thru and rebuilt the transmission and transfer case as well as re-sealing the engine and axles amongst a ton of other work/upgrades. I didn’t paint the truck in this phase of the build, that will come last a few more years down the road. Next up in a year or so will be an LS swap using a cammed Ly6 6.0 mated to the original 465/205 combo. Today I drove the truck to the dmv and titles/registered the truck for highway use FINALLY! It’s a great feeling to be in a spot where I can finally drive it hopefully way more than work on it. So far I’ve put close to 100 miles on it since leaving the shop and all have been with a smile on my face.

My dad had one of these K trucks when I was a kid in the early-mid 90’s. (I’m almost 32 now) That truck, and the time I spent with my dad when he was restoring it, along with riding around in it together, is what got me hooked on these old trucks. He now has another ‘72 K20 that’s he’s working on again. It’s been cool updating each other on the status of our builds as we live across the country from each other now. It’s also been fun to see my kids enthusiasm toward my truck, that reminds me of how it all started with me. Today was the first time I ever drove my K20 with both my kids in the truck.(shifting gears with a car seat in the middle is quite an adventure) My son Cole, was 3 months old when I tore it down. Kenley was 2, and she used to ride around some with me before tear down but I don’t think she really remembers it much.

All In all, it’s been an awesome long weekend for me. I look forward to continuing to build on my K20 as I shake it down and get ready for the LS swap as well as any other things that come up. I hope everyone is enjoying whatever phase there trucks are in and I also hope it’s a family affair for everyone else. Some of my best memories involve old chevys in some form or another.

Here’s a few pictures. First my dads old 71 K10 circa 1993ish and second, me and my little ones in my K20.

My Grandson LOVES to go for rides in the 67 GMC. Took him to the dump last sunday. He is 5. He told me, "Grandpa, this is a cool truck." I'd drive him all over the place if he wanted to.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I sure do love to hang out with them and their amazing mom. It’s even better that I am able to share a few of my passions with them. The kids really like the K20 a lot but I think the Camaro still Had momma won over. She’s (my wife, that is haha not the car) the best thing that’s ever happened to me by far.
Dad had an ‘86 305 Camaro at the same time he had the K10. I used to love to ride in it too. Performance cars have come a loooonngggg way since the 80’s haha. I like mine quite a bit more than his now. He sold his Camaro shortly before the truck. I don’t plan to sell either of mine.
