73 C25 Leaky Gas Tank
 

Hi all,

Been working on an old GMC C25. There appears to be a leak on the fuel tank on the vent (I think) connector. Is that repairable (like with a grommet) or should I just got to the shop and buy an reproduction tank for $79?

Is it the rubber line or the actual tank fitting. Those are soldered in. If it is leaking at the tank fitting, I personally would put in a new tank.

Hi Bill,

The nipple on the tank is wobbly - not the rubber line.

Thanks for the help - back to the drawing board.

There isn't much pressure on that fitting. You might buy a few more years out of that tank by cleaning the area up and using JB-Weld.

I would put a new tank + sender + hose replacement in your budget plans for the future. Even if the JB-Weld works, a rust out somewhere else is very possible.

65Oldred:As side you could try Dead Parrot:But you would want to use a wood dowel cut down to work the is side neck lip out by small circle turns stretch out the inside lip tighten up the seal a little if the gas fumes do not push up to much the JB- Weld should work make sure really clean around the area to use it.
The other you can do is if the tank is still good is take it to a gas tank shop have them re-soldered if cheaper then new tank. But the tank still have to come out for the shop to work on it. If you bring the tank to them will be much cheaper for the bill.
