Re: bright headlights
Depends on the year of the truck. IIRC - the early squares came with plain incandescent headlights. Halogen bulbs made for a nice upgrade over those. Even if your bulbs still work, a new set might be brighter.
Some of the LED drop in bulbs have poor enough focus patterns they do more to blind oncoming drivers then help the owner. |
Re: bright headlights
Run halogens and a relay kit to put full voltage to the lights. Stock wiring is tiny, measure the voltage at the light compared to the battery, and you'll see (literally, once you add the relay harness, lol)

Re: bright headlights
so a relay for the low beams and also for the high beams?

Re: bright headlights
yes

Re: bright headlights
I installed relays with halogen bulbs in my '78 Suburban and saw a big improvement with that simple upgrade. I then installed the Hella conversions and saw a big improvement over that. Completely satisfied.

Here’s the two-page thread about my decision to upgrade and the results. Some great discussion from board members, complete with photos.
