Chevrolet, GMC differences

I'm sure to you guys this will be an elementary question, but I know absolutely nothing about the 60-66 trucks. I'm sure the answer is different from year to year on some items.

Chevrolet to GMC
Are the instrument clusters different?
Is the rear suspension different. (I think I know the answer to this one, but I will digress to the experts.).
Is the glovebox different? Does AC change the GB configuration?

TIA

Welcome to the 60-66 neighborhood.
I found this thread by searching titles:https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...ht=differences

Clusters are different
Chevy usually got coils in the rear, GMCs usually got leafs. Each truck could be optioned with either rear setup
I think the glove boxes are different, but I haven't put my hands on the GMC ones, so I'm not certain. Not sure about the A/C either

Thanks guys. It looks like I might not be the first to delve into this area of unknowns.

The entire dash is different. Clusters are not shaped the same, radio and ash tray area different and the glove box door is flat on the GMC. I have both dash's here and can try and get some pics. Hood is not the same. I have a GMC hood to put on my 65 to change up the front. GMC's seem to be mostly leaf spring with a Dana 44.

Thanks, don't go to any trouble, I was asking out of curiosity more than anything. I just didn't realize the dashes were different.

Were the rear suspensions coil with leafs optional like the next generation on both GMC and Chevrolet?

Up till 67 I have heard many times that the GMC could be ordered with coils on the back, I have never seen one. The half dozen that I have been told that they came that way after seeing them was in fact actually a Chevrolet wearing a GMC cab. (non matching numbers that I confirmed were actually not GMC)

GMC and Chevrolets never shared an assembly line until 67

Robert Haas, 1960-1966 GMC trucks in Canada are known to have coil spring rear suspension. Also, because both GMC and Chevrolet trucks were made in Oshawa, Ontario, I have reason to believe they were made on the same assembly line.

I have a short bed GMC X-Frame. It has coils.
One thing that most don't mention is the gmc's from at least 60-66 did not have the VIN on the frame. Chevy did, but not GMC.

Interesting stuff here.

Did the 60-66 trucks have a SPID or build sheet?

Re: Chevrolet, GMC differences

From the limited knowledge I have on build sheets and SPIDs, some of the 66 trucks got SPIDs. I'm not really sure on the build sheets though. Unfortunately, my seat was recovered, so if there was one, it got tossed long ago

I have seen one SPID on a 66. I have found the remnants of the build sheets in a few seat backs over the years.

That is one thing I did know. My dad had a friend that bought a couple of those new. I was just a little kid, but there was no mistaking that sound. The guy bought them because of the lugging power. He actually abused them, chug, chug, chuging them around.
