Average range RPMs for 700R

Hi gang,

We put the 700R behind the 305 V-6. I want to make sure of the rpms at idle?

What do y'all think?

I'm pretty sure that that V-6 idles at a low enough speed that you should be OK with stock idle. Just so it doesn't creep at idle should be good enough.

Would you have an idea? We have it falling between 650-675. When I shut the engine off I'm getting a backfire and studdering. A friend told me to check timing and the rpms.. because I put the 700R in, I'm unsure what range it should be.

The only way that timing would cause run-on is if it is retarded enough that you had to crank the idle speed up. So, yes, make sure that the timing is correct. Did you change anything except the transmission? It's possible that you could have a bit too much tension on the detent cable and it could be cracking the throttle a bit. That is an easy check.
