Any luck with Sanden AC compressors? Help please!
 

In the 4 years I have owned my '72 Burb, I have been through 2 Four Seasons 58098 AC compressors (with clutch). They last about 18 months, and give up the ghost, with the final days full of horrible squealing noises.

I'm done with Four Seasons. Anyone have good luck with Sanden compressors? I assume I'd need a different bracket to make the switch, but I'm hoping for something to last a few years.

Suggestions please!

Who did that conversion? I see a later model low side accumulator. Orifice tube? No drier then? What type of condenser? How much oil is in the system? I would prefer to see a high side drier or filter to catch any contamination material before it circulates to the other parts of the system.

That four seasons compressor uses a Denso body. I think it has a decent reputation. The key to the Sanden would be to find one with enough displacement to handle the rear AC

Hi @bigdav160. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not an AC guy, so I can't answer your questions. The conversion was done by a prior owner, and I have only had the vehicle 4 years. When I originally had the work done to replace the compressor the 1st time, they tried to replace the drier, but couldn't find a suitable replacement. So it was reused. No idea how old it is.

First off I will say I have a working GB knowledge of A/C systems but no practical knowledge. The concern with those two systems you posted would be like BigDave160 said. Would they have enough capacity for the rear system?
Personally before going and buying new partsI would look around locally for a shop that specializes in hot rods and such. Then have them evaluate the system to find the deficiencies. I would have to get 3 or 4 opinions before making my mind up.
