82 Hood insulation template

I've read mixed reviews about under hood insulation but it's something I'm planning to do in the near future so I wanted to share this.

I've seen some of the kits on line and they seem to be way overpriced. I decide to measure the "voids" in my hood and make templates to cut my own insulation and then cover with an insulation pad from ebay.

I have not begun my install yet but I've attached a pic of the underside of my hood, because I know different years vary, and I've highlighted the areas represented in my template drawing.
The template pieces layout on a 24x36 piece of paper (blueprint size) and have the number needed to be cut out of each size.

I found insulation (12 sq ft), heat reflective tape and spray adhesive on amazon for around $100. The pad on ebay, with clips, is $45 + $12 shipping.
Quiteride solutions youtube video seems to be a good guide for installation.

I calculated the area of all the pieces needed and they equate to 8.25 sq ft. although extra sg ft will be needed to account for waste when cutting them out.

I think you can download the pdf from my post but if you have a problem, PM me your email and I can send you the pdf. You will have to print it out at a Kinkos, Office depot or some other print house that has a large scale printer.

Also, double check the template cut outs against your hood before cutting your insulation, just to be sure they fit.

I'll post my results when complete. Please post you results if you decide to go this route.

Cheers
Eric

It's cool that you would share this info. I will be interested to see and hear about your results. One thing I'm curious about, would you mind keeping track of your engine temp and see if it increases? I wish there was a way to monitor under hood temps. I've been curious for a while how hood insulation affects that, or if it's negligible. I will also be interested to see if you notice the reduction of underhood noise making it into the cab.
