Thinking i want to put one of them licence plate backup cams on my k20 build anyone use one? good or bad?

My backup cameras give a very accurate view of where I am backing. I have three, one on each door and one at the upper center of the windshield. But I don't call them cameras, I call them rearview mirrors :cool:

I had one in my company service truck i loved it great for hooking up a trailer or catch that person in your blind spot at the mall

I have one on my '67 Panel Truck. Works good, and I use it a lot, because I don't have any rear side windows. I also have rear view mirrors and I use those but the camera gives that extra blind spot protection....

Now there is a very practical use of a b/u camera right there if there ever was one. We've all seen the big convex mirror mounted on the rear corner of vans up high pointing down.

I knew you would have the awnswer special k..but I'm putting sport mirrors on the truck and they dont have the best visabilaty.. seems everyone wants to walk behind a moving truck latly.. guess with mask they cant see..

Gotcha and been there done that. My '72 K20 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper had sport mirrors from factory.... Say what!!!??? Yep, that's how it was ordered. I imagine that truck was about how we are now with these trucks. The guy wanted it all, not about hauling a camper, that's for sure. I saw no evidence of one ever mounted. I could not see ch!t out dem murz :lol:

I have one mounted in the recess of the tailgate latch. Unless I point it out, you would never notice it. Pointing down slightly gives a much better reference to distance than straight on. I have a replacement rear view mirror that is the screen on the left side of it. You would not know there is a screen until the camera comes on. Works great.

I want to get something like this for my truck, and a wifi type for behind the travel trailer when I'm towing it.

I want one on all my older vehicles....in fact, I want full 360 camera views with all-time recording and upload directly onto the web!

Thats a great idea! Get a good wireless one though, I bought a cheap one from Amazon and it didn't work all that great, and that was just the length of the truck.

Finished mounting one on my K5 this summer.

The dash had already been cut back in the 80s in favor of an Alpine head unit (you remember how cool those quintesential mint green square buttons were). If your dash is already cut then JVC had some clean touch screen units from their KDX-AV line that could pop in there. An integrated monitor inside rear view or a windshield mounted monitor would be better options so you're not hacking up your truck dash but in my case someone already did it so why not make use of it?

Wiring was easy- both power and signal on are sourced from the same reverse light power. Wireless would have been nice to prevent running a wire from the camera to the monitor.

The lift, tiny sport mirrors, rear bench seat back rest and spare tire all add up and make a 15-20 foot blindspot directly behind the Blazer. Personally, the camera went in because I've got little ones I care about. It's a huge help knowing what's behind me instead of hoping nothing is there.

Color coded back up sensors are inexpensive and could be mounted in the bumper but it depends on how far you want to go with it.

There are lots of decent inexpensive options on Amazon.

Definitely a great safety idea, thanks for sharing. I just need to find a way to install one but have it hidden until I need it...to keep the 'vintage vibe of the truck.

Here's an ashtray mounted monitor for a back up camera. It does not flip up as you would expect. According to the installer the viewing angle was fine.

If looking to keep the stock look, something like an old cell phone or this 5" monitor on Amazon for $27 might fit in the ashtray with a little creativity and fabrication.

The 5" and 4.3"appear too big to fit in the ash tray but this 3.6" might.
