New squeaky cab mounts
I just installed new rubber cab mounts on my '65 and now she squeaks going down the road! Ugh! Anyone know how to stop them from squeaking? Something that won't degrade the rubber?

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
They should not squeak, as they should not be moving.
Are the bolts done up tightly? Is something -else- squeaking, now that things are more rigid? |
Re: New squeaky cab mounts
Good point. I'll double check.

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
My new rubber cab mounts squeak too! I made sure they are tight and still the squeak goes on. Cheap ass China rubber probably.
I even went back and used the grade 8 bolts and tubes from my poly mounts to try to stop it and still no luck. The kicker is the poly ones never squeaked. They just transmitted a lot of harshness and vibration. I may put them back in though because the squeaking drives me nuts. |
Re: New squeaky cab mounts
After I moved my gas tank to the back, under the bed, I removed the lower gas tank mounts before installing the cab mounts. I used large fender washers on the inside. I thought that might have caused some squeaking, but no. I was considering using a silicon lubricant on the rubber cushions and reassembling.

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
I torqued the bolts to 80 ft lbs and it greatly reduced the squeaking a lot.

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
Is that what they're supposed to be?

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
The spec in the manual says 70 - 90 ft-lbs

Re: New squeaky cab mounts
Wow, I would've never guessed that they had to be so tight. Thanks for that I'll get out the ol' torque wrench and crank them down this weekend.
