It is a bolt in operation as far as the column, but the wiring is different.

The wiper controls, and high beams are on a stalk on the new model. So you will have to re-pin your connector or add a new connector. That way you can add the function to the column.

or you can leave the wipers and high beams where they are and not use the new column functions

Re: colmn swap

The harmonica plug is pinned the same from 78 on.
The wipers and dimmer switches are up to you.

Re: colmn swap

is the shaft from the firewall to the steering box the same too.
I want all the stuff on the new column to work like factory.

Re: colmn swap

The stub end of the column is shaped differently for different model years.
You'll have to get a steering shaft that mates with your power steering box and column.
Not difficult to find. Some folks use a Jeep intermediate shaft with universal joints rather than a rag joint.

Re: colmn swap

ok so grab the shaft at the same time I snag a column

Re: colmn swap

yes. It may or may not work depending on your steering box end. But you could use one end from your old shaft and one from your new one to make what you need. It would take some work taking them both apart and building what you need but it would work. It could be as easy as a bolt on or a new rag joint
