New K20 Owner from Virginia
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Folks,
First, grateful to join the forum – thanks Josh. I’ve gained so much already by perusing the topics and making copious notes. I am a long time Chevy truck fan and a recent owner of a 1972 K20. Back in the 70s, a buddy’s dad had a beautiful 72 two-tone orange/white C-10 that was always in showroom condition. His wife had a 63 Impala candy apple red convertible in excellent shape. Been a Chevy fan ever since. About myself, I grew up on a small farm with a fantastic dad who was a degreed engineer. We built and worked on everything from farm equipment, vehicles, washing machines and everything in between. Until I left home for college, I didn’t know you could actually call someone to fix a broken item at your house. We always had this “lets figure this out, its not rocket science” attitude. Many fond memories working with my dad. I am a fire chief in central Virginia – still fixing problems every day. I picked up my 72 K20 from a young man that towed it to North Carolina from Idaho. The truck was used as a camper, very little rust, and in good mechanical shape. I have a few leaks from the drive train (I’ve developed a few leaks as I get older too :). Mostly original equipment except for the paint, slight modifications to the engine (new aluminum radiator, Edelbrock carb, and headers) a 70 hood (needs to be replaced) and the addition of new leaf springs and a minor lift kit. It has a 350, 4 speed transmission (Muncie 465 & Eaton 205), and Eaton H052 rear end. My goal with the truck is to restore it to street show condition. I am concentrating on the drivetrain now, fixing the leaks and tuning the engine. I plan to remove the auxiliary gas tanks, but keep the access doors. I have a dedicated heated shop with the basic set of tools including a mig welder (I plan to fix my cab corners myself). Look forward to engaging with the group.
