Re: Stock tires
I don't know exactly what came on them in 1986, but it seems like my 1980 K/10 had something like H78-15.
So those tire rack options could be replacement tire sizes. I had P225/70R15 on my Jeep and when I ruined one this year they couldn't get a replacement. So they "gave" me four LT235/75R15 under warranty, but I had to pay for a new spare along with mounting and new warranty. Nice upgrade except they rub on the lower control arms on a tight turn. |
Re: Stock tires
I ordered 2 235/75R15 tires now I need 4 15x8 rims. I could only find a 15x7 at the junk yard for 85 bucks and it was White. No one has inexpensive wheel on line.

Re: Stock tires
You don’t need 8 inch rims for 235 tires.
I assume that’s what you’re thinking. |
Re: Stock tires
I removed the spare that's been under my 85 silverado for 30 years and the rim was 8" and it looks like the stock rim, But the rim was rusted too bad from water getting inside because it was Flat for years I guess.
Is there a Off Set for square body trucks? |
Re: Stock tires
The stock 15x7’s on my 84 were 4 inch backspacing. No offset.
15x8’s are usually same backspace but would have an offset of 1 inch. I used some newer ss454 rims on my 84. They were 15x7 with 4 inch bs. |
Re: Stock tires
My 86 came with 15x7 with 225/75 x15, bought it brand new in 86

Re: Stock tires
15x8's where around as well.

Re: Stock tires
Those are Factory 15x8 5x5 bolt space Rally. I be leave they make reproduction rims that was few yr back now. 15x7 where mostly the norm as 15x8 was a option up grade. Unless dealer order that that way to sell. Try board members or locals car & truck club e-bay or other local parts in your area. Spare were Black, but must of wheel set where gray or sliver the Rally's. There starting to be had to find good OEM set now. A lot set now pretty rusty need to sand blasted a lot to clean them lots time/work to them looking good again. There is marking on the rim on the face near the valve or the back not to far away valve if the rust is not thick or there not to much paint on the rims say 15x8 or 15x7 or 15x6 some time there under the tire tread.

Re: Stock tires
Most with factory steel wheels, which I think were 6 or 6.5 inch wide came with FR78 for the size. Depending on who's scale you look at, it is normally a 205/78x15 for the size. Most folks run the 225 or 235 in 75 series which is just a hair taller, which is about the size when they used the 8" wide rally wheels.( GR78 I believe for back then)

The spare is a rally wheel . I bought a set from Specialk for my burban ,sold the burban same day I picked up the rims . Staggered set 15x7 and 15x8 most likely going on my 68 when I convert to disc and 5 lug

My '86 suburban came with factory 8" rally's and P235/75R15XL tires. I assume that XL back in the day is the predecessor to LT tires today.
SPID attached showing the option. |

The 86 I just bought shows a P195/75R15 as the stock tire size on the SPID. Pretty sure the stock rims for these where 15"x5.5" with a 10.125" hub cap. Those are missing now from the truck. But I have a full set I can put on if I decide to go that way.
The truck has either 225 or 235 75R15's on it now with '88 up style truck rally wheels also missing the center caps and trim rings.. |

We were running 7.00-15 6 ply truck tires on our half ton way back in the 1960s (after the piss poor passenger tires that it came with blew out). |

Re: Stock tires
GM did not make 8" wide wheel after 87....widest 15 are the 7" alloys. Steels I believe were all 6.5 (on the 1500 models)

i have only seen 7" or 8" wide on the trucks my self up here in the north east . i have prob 2 full sets of decent 15x8" GM rims .
i just started doing up rims for my c-10 short bed build . i did 2 6.5" from a G-series van for the front with 235/70/15 and 255/70/15 rear on 8" wide and it gives it a nice staggered look . here is the look i have going and last pic of the center cap and lug cover combo i picked . and fyi my whole truck is down 2.5" from stock height . just to give you a size reference . |

Re: Stock tires
I always ran 235/75R15's on the 1/2 tons and 265/75R16 on the 3/4 tons.
Most of my 1/2 tons came with 215/75R15's and 245/75R16's on the 3/4 tons. IIRC I ran 235's on my 1968 IH Scout 800 back in the 80's with no issues. |
