How tall are you?
 

The reason I ask is that the cab on these trucks seems a bit small by today's standards. I am only 5'8" so I don't really have a problem although the seat is all the way back. My younger son is 6"2" and he seems a bit cramped in the truck. I have not got the original seat so maybe the replacement sits a bit further ahead. I was told it was a seat out of a newer Chevy pickup but I am not certain of that. Any thoughts on what seats give the most leg room?

I'm 6'1" I am comfortable in the truck, but I feel like I sit way up in relation to the cap... have 2" or so above my head of clearance.

Original "full foam" bench seat... which is mighty comfy I might add...

yeh my seat is right back and I feel like I'm pretty close to the wheel, and I'm 5.11 not sure what a big guy would do

I am 6'4" and slouch a lil when I drive...no worries about ceiling clearance here (unless you hit a bottomless pothole, in which case you smack your head on the ceiling hard enough to see stars).

5'9", 89 bench seat in the K20, plenty of room all around, and full foam with extra foam in the C10, 13" wheel, plenty of room in it too

My Son is 6'6". We relocated the gas tank under the bed and replaced the bench seat with 69 Corvette seats. It's a little tight but not that bad for him. He's 17, If he keeps growing, I might have to trade him for my '02 2500HD extended cab. He fits in that no problem at all.

I am glad somebody asked that question. I am 6' 4". I bought my '72 last year thinking I was going to use it for work. I am a land surveyor and I drive 100-180 miles a day. When I got the truck it was much nicer than I had expected and there was no way I was going to drive it that many miles and wear it out - not the mention the 10 mpg it gets. I also found that the cab is just too cramped for a guy my size. Not so much the height as the legroom, which is in short supply. If I sit up straight and drive without shoes, it's not bad at all. I have the original seat and it almost feels like it is pushing me forward. I need a decent set of bucket seats in the worst way. If anyone knows what would fit the easiest and give me a couple more inches to move rearward, please, by all means, fill me in here. Somebody throw me a frickin' bone here! Honestly, what am I paying you people for?

5'5" and the seat is just right and real comfy when it's all of the way back.

5'6"...seat is all the way back and just right. I have wondered this same thing. I guess taller people just bend their knees more. This is one of the few advantages of being short...enjoy it.

Brave Dave, the Corvette seats worked out pretty well. They sit low and the backs are real thin too. I made a stand for them. I made it tall and cut it down to the point where my Son was comfortable.

6'2" here. My cowboy hat is a little close to the roof.

6'2 and the steering wheel is close to my legs. stock wheel from 70s/80s truck. stock bench covered over with black vinyl so its really thick......

I'm about 5'10", my truck has a stock bench and column with an original steering wheel. I would say I fit comfortably in there, I like to be on the "cosy" side. I was worried when I bought my truck that it might be too roomy like the newer trucks but was pleasantly surprised to be basically a perfect fit in the truck...

6 foot even here...weighing in at 2 bills even, and I find the head room fine, the leg room a little on the shy side, and with the tilt, I have no gut problems, but if it was a non-tilt with the school bus wheel...I'd probably be cussing these days.


If you hit your head, all you have to do is buckle your seat belt. Even a lap belt will save your hide. It saved mine in the first longhorn.

5-7 and I don't have a problem, but if I did the first thing I'd do is put on a smaller steering wheel. (Unless I had manual steering, of course)!!!

6'1" here and I have 90's style seat and Grant 16" wheel. I am OK with it, althoungh the legroom feels cramped. Guess that is why I like the 96 for the everyday driver. Much more leg room.

6'3" here. seat back no problems. I do have a grant steering wheel also.

5'10 ... my foam seat is pretty mashed down on the driver side .. i have plently of head room

6 foot here and the leg room is fine for me

6'5" have no problems but I have jeep grand dherokee seats in a blazer so I don't have a gas tank to contend with

I'm 6'-2" and my biggest problem is leg room. I've swapped in a mid-90's steering wheel and that's helped a great deal. My father, a long-time veteran of these trucks who is also over 6-foot, recommends grabbing the bench seat out of a late 60's Ford pickup. Apparently they're a little smaller and have less padding all around. Supposedly, you can pick up a few inches that way and they bolt in very easily.

I'm 6' 1" and I like the feel of my 72. When you sit a bit high on the seats it makes you feel like you're in a pic from CARtoons magazine with a huge guy popping through the roof on a classic hot rod :D

6'3"..300lbs...stock wheel and seats...Its like a monkey f*&king a football...I am going with racing seats this winter...maybe that wil help

I'm around the 6'1" range. headroom is fine but the legroom is my issue. I could stand to be a couple more inches away from the steering wheel so that my legs are a little straighter. I'll fix that issue when I figure out what kind of seats I want to put in.

6' 3" and a 50" chest and I find it quite comfortable, original bench seat with an aftermarket small wheel. Mind you, I have driven some very small cars in my time including a Fiat 126, a small square later version of the Fiat 500 that was so small that I could sit up real straight and drive it with my eyes just out of the sun roof!
