Missing 'gasket' between spindle and dust cover on disc brakes?
Currently in the process of reassembling the front end on a chassis I am building from ground up.
Using stock 1971-2 disc brake parts on a 70 frame. When I took the spindles apart it seems that I remember a round gasket that was in between the spindle and the dust shield or maybe inside the dust shield before the spindle goes on??? Now I don't know where it should go even if I had a new one to install or could figure out where to order such a thing. I thought I saw a photo somewhere of some dust shields for sale that included the gaskets and seems like they were from CPP originally. However, I already have dust shields and don't need any more. Any help or ideas? |

A few places sell the gaskets. Classic Industries and Classic Parts America off the top of my head. They go over the spindle and the dust shield goes over them.

I have not checked those yet. I have a hard time finding those so I saved the old ones to cut out new from scratch.

Why would you need a gasket? Open on both sides. What would it hold back?

I don't know about a gasket used there.

Re: Missing 'gasket' between spindle and dust cover on disc brakes?
For the cost of shipping just those gaskets alone I have been considering making my own gaskets to go there. Don't think size and shape is extremely critical so if it was just about round and the correct size they would work.
Thanks for all the responses. Jay |

I have actually used a little bit of RTV when the gaskets were shot

My 1980 Trans Am has them and according to the guys on the forums there, the purpose is just for anti-rattle. You will never see them or even know if they are there as the dust shields hide them completely. |

They are probably for corrosion between the galvanized shield and the cast iron spindles.
