Last year a friend and I went up to the Muscle car and Corvette Nationals car show in Chicago. I didn't expect to see any 67-72 chevy trucks. I first saw the Longhorn camper and it was really, really, nice! But I turned around and saw the aged tow truck and thought, "Why is that thing in here?" Then I walked up and looked under the hood. It had a 66 or 67 426 Nascar race hemi in it! The story I over heard was an older fella owned a junk yard down south and they removed the engine from a dodge race car and stuck it in the truck. The man loved it and it never got taken back out. Pretty cool to see.

Now the over powered tow rig. :ito: Just look how the towing apparatus was set up. When I first saw it, it made me think this truck could have literally been hauling the General Lee in the show.

Yes it was! I am still super bummed it was cancelled this year. Do you plan to go next year?

Another of the Longhorn. As nice as this is, they can't be using it.

Yes, planning on going next year. I talked to the Longhorn owner for about 15 minutes. He restored the truck and camper himself. Seems he told me the truck took about 3 years and the camper was something like a 15 year affair. Both are very nice

Two really cool old trucks. Thanks for posting.

On that Longhorn, why is the battery on the wrong side, What are those two tanks for and what's that impeller thingy under the master cylinder for?

If you look close you will see there is a battery on both sides. The one on the drivers side is an auxiliary battery for the camper. You see the auxiliary battery trays for sale on the board every once in a while. Not sure on the other two.

Impeller thing looks to be a siren.

As I recall, he had a siren just for fun. The bottles were propane (l think) which had lines running to the steer skull mounted out front. He could make flames come out the mouth- or something like that
