Ignition actuator rod

Had to replace the ignition switch in my '80 C10. I guess I bent the actuator rod since it binds when I tighten the switch down.

Question for those that been there done that, would I be better off removing the steering column to sort out instead of fighting this thing under the dash? Would a new replacement rod be worth ordering?

I would be easier to work on the rod and the switch if you took the steering column out to fix it now. But did you put the rod in right or mess up the new switch or is it line up. If you bent it & not to bad you maybe able to fix it. Can be done under the dash, much hard to see things work that way. (What ever way you do it.) "Take a good look at it refit and test fit it".

Yeah I made sure I had the tilt switch. I just bent the rod pulling the old one out not paying attention.
