Tire question
 

Ok guys, I am in the process of buying a 71 K10 Chevy pickup from a co-worker. The first thing I want to do so I feel safe taking it out on the road is dump the factory 15" rims (assuming they are split rims) and the wore out 30x9.5" tires for a set of 16" rims and tires. So my question is, what are the largest 16" tires that I can safely fit on this truck?

And am I correct in thinking that that bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5"?

'71 is 5 lug and they didn't come with split rims, so not much to worry about there....

you should be able to fit 33" tires with no lift, assuming the wheels/tires aren't that wide, and your springs haven't drooped any. 31" or 32" would be better, but alot of 33" tires aren't actually 33" OD, they're actually smaller.

71 K10 should be 6 on 5.5" and they will be 15" rims so depending on lift and the suspension ride height that will determine the largest tire to use.
The 4X4 guys will be able to answer the size question better than I.

No reason to ditch the rims onless they are just too ugly for you. The split rims were on the 3/4 ton and bigger, and even then, most did not have them.

I had 33X12.5 bf goodwich ATs on my old blazer with no lift

2wd's had 5 lug rims and the 4x4's had 6 lug rims ( 1/2 ton )
I had 33x12.5x15's on my truck at one time with no lift and they did rub the fenders at times. I also had 33x9.5x15's with no lift and had no problems. I'm currently running 33x9.5x15's with a 2.5" lift and like this combo.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought it looked like I might be able to fit some 255/85R16 tires, but wasn't sure if they would rub. I'm sure the springs have sagged over time though, so I will probably stick with a 265/75R16 just to be safe.

Guess I don't really need to ditch the rims (although the tires are a different story) since they aren't split rims, but I really prefer a 16 rim/tire combo.
