Inner to outer rocker panel gap

Im replacing some rusty cab panels and am trying to find out the recommended gap between the inner and outer rocker panels... ie the gap where the weatherstrip molding sits. Thanks in advance.

If someone doesn't beat me to it I see my cab this weekend and will note to measure. By appearances yours looks same as mine. If I had to guess 1/4", though might be in 10ths.

I measured 3 or 4 factory cabs and all were about 5/8 with some variation. That being said the important thing is that the weather stripping you go back with fits into the channel. IE you need to get the weather stripping on it and test fit it before welding in the panels. Carpet goes up to the edge of that gap and is held down by the sill plate. Sill plate also holds the weather stripping down in the channel.

I am using the press on weather stripping from Wes and it fits into a 1/4-3/8" gap no issues. I elected to go with a smaller gap.

Here are two pics from the assembly manual to help you. The cross section color codes: orange = sill plate , red = inner rocker , blue = outer rocker & yellow = weather stripping.

Hope that helps

Re: Inner to outer rocker panel gap

The gap width dimension is secondary to how the rocker panel lines up with the door...That gap is simply for the dome light wire and for the rubber door weather stripping. What is critical is how the rocker panel lines up with the closed door...The gap averages 1/2" inch..."Jus Sayin"

Thanks for the help everyone. The door seems to be lining up good. I put some weatherstripping in the gap and and it also fits great. I just thought maybe the gap was a little too wide but according to everyone's feedback I should be good to go. Only 340 more cuts 1364 more welds and 38.5 hours to go before I'm finished....with this side.
