Crew Cab interior redo
3 Attachment(s)
I am in the middle of redoing the interior of my 89 Crew Cab, adding the missing headliner and doing a stereo install.
This is what I started with. |

I started by pulling the interior door panels out of a 91 parts Suburban that I have. Since Suburbans have a better chance of being in good shape, this is what I started with.
I don’t like the factory pouches and I wanted the Crew Cab interior trim. I also will be ditching the factory pull straps that are always broken. Along with the updates, I will be ditching the rear ash trays - Sorry, no smoking in my ride. |

Stripped the panels bare and gave them a good cleaning with paint prep scuffing paste which has both a soap and a scuffing agent in it.
Filled the holes, added a few coats of filler in prep for paint. |

...then coated and textured the panels. These aren’t the final color, but are close.
I will wait about a week and hit them with some Dark Carmine SEM color coat that I had mixed up in quarts. Still to come are the custom lower panels that will house the speakers, rear sub install, redo the dash, color the headliner trim red and install the headliner….. |

Headliner Stuff & Red Trim

Not a whole lot of updates. Got the headliner ready to go in.
That is real 100% 16oz Scottish Wool. I even have some left over for the misses to make herself a matching skirt (didn't ever say that I wasn't tacky) Trim is all now one color! Used to be three different colors and none were red. Still a lot to go... |
Re: Crew Cab interior redo

Got my door pads in one color. I used three of the donor Suburban and one from an 83 Crew Cab that I am also redoing, then selling off.
I may cover them in leather at a later date. I didn't get any photos of them in the black epoxy primer. |

Made some door panel inserts to convert the Suburban style inserts to the Crew Cab style.
Got them epoxy primered, base coated and cleared. I used a high gloss clear instead of the matte clear that I was going to use. I really liked the color when I applied the base coat then decided to use the high gloss clear as I can always apply the matte clear over the gloss but not the other way around. I did an extra test piece and will cover it with a matte clear to help me decide which finish that I want. |

I sanded down the visor arms (not shown) and was going to repair the old dried visors, then shoot them red.
But I decided to just order some new painted support arms and Carmine Red visors from USA1. I can always cover them in leather at a later date if I don't like them. BTW, that "...at a later date..." usually doesn't happen! |

This is the dash that I did (am doing) for my 83 CC where I used a matte clear over a metallic base coat (on the inserts). The dash panel is not yet applied in the last photo, but you can see the look that I am going for. A little more modern but still stock looking.
When asked, I like to tell folks that my vehicles are "all stock" or "it was my grandfather's rig", then just kind of walk away. |

Had to run out to my shop anyways, so I did a quick check on my inserts.
I think that I like them with the gloss clear. I don't know what's up with the reflection in the photos??? |

I was going to redo mine just about as you described, but I found the ones on USA1's website and I have time to wait for their shipping. I sure would like a blast cabinet for some of these small parts. I did keep my originals if I end up needing to or wanting to redo them in the same leather that I am going to be covering the dash in. |
Re: Crew Cab interior redo
