Steering box 2002 z71

Well have a lot of play in the steering and all joints look good and tight the box has slip. Is it the adjustment on the box I should do or just replace with a new steering box

If you have a lot of slop in the box it's worn.

I assume you have 1/8 or more of a turn before the movement of the steering wheel translates to movement of the pitman arm.

Adjusting the Saginaw power steering boxes generally doesn't compensate for the wear issue. You can try it but don't get your hopes up.
If you have a bunch of wear adjustment makes steering stiff at the ends of the travel and still loose in the middle where most of the wear happened.

If you have a rack & pinion setup you'll have to replace the steering rack.

Before you condemn the steering box make darn sure that's the problem.
Check the intermediate steering shaft between the rack/box and the base of the column at the firewall for loose joints.
Check all of the steering linkage joints for wear. Tie rod ends, pitman arm, idler arm, Upper & Lower ball joints, and A-Arm bushings.
Check the wheel bearings too.
