Fuel Lines

1986 Chev Suburban C20 2wd...I ordered replacement fuel lines and when I removed the original 3/8" lines...they are 3 piece...Inline tube send me 2 piece replacement lines. I compared the replacements with the originals and there are bends in originals that are not in replacements ??? Not sure what to do ??

Re: Fuel Lines

It appears that the 3/8" fuel line was diverted away from the muffler (dual exhaust) and is on the other side of the frame...has anyone else seen this...it is the way it came from the factory !

Re: Fuel Lines

3/8 line should be on the pass side of the frame. Maaybe a 1/4'' line on the drivers side for a vapor charcoal line from the cannister. dual tanks??

Re: Fuel Lines

No...it is a suburban with a 40 gal tank...the 1/4" fuel return line and the 5/16" line to the charcoal can both go on the inside of the passenger side of the frame. The 3/8" main fuel line goes outside the frame...about 6" from the frame also on passenger side. Inline tube does not show any replacement lines shaped like this...and...this line is 3 piece. It is the original fuel line from the factory...this truck has been in mine since it came from the dealer and nothing was ever done to the fuel line.

Re: Fuel Lines

I bought brake lines from inline tube, and was also disappointed in the fit up. Everything worked perfectly, except for the long run down the chassis. There were interference issues, and a lot of gratuitous bends that made no sense. I finally just bought a coil of tubing and made my own line for this section.

I think that Inline Tube oversimplifies things, when they recommend a specific line set. Most likely GM had a lot more differences in the chassis, brake lines, and fuel lines over the years than Inline Tube is aware of.

You can send in your old fuel line and inlinetube will copy at. Much easier in my opinion then trying to make your own from a roll.

Re: Fuel Lines

I asked Inline Tube if I can send my original lines in and return the ones that don't fit...they told me to send pics and they would let me know. My lines are three piece...original from the factory, and the section right before the fuel pump is very strange ! It is a 1/2" tube with 3/8" hose barbs ! And...it was extruded this way (barbs not added on)...the engine has a 4bbl carb, and maybe this was done for more fuel volume when the 4 bbl opens ??? Anyone else see this type tube ?

Re: Fuel Lines

If it is a pattern that inline tube does not have I would think they would want your lines so that they can make a pattern for it. They run the tube thru a machine that measures it exactly. They have a huge database of patterns for all makes and models. It is so much easier then trying to bend your own.
