Frenched headlights

I have a spare set of fenders for the 48 and I've been looking at Frenched headlights. The kits are not what I was thinking. I saw a Gene Winfield video on it and was thinking about doing it old school.

Do any of you have pictures of your truck with it done by welding the trim ring on and mounting the light bucket from the back? I'd sure like to see some to see how they turned out.

Thanks.

Not the best photo but this is my truck with 53 Merc rings when it was red.

Jeff Spence sells Merc style rings that he makes or has made. They have the right look.

His facebook store page shows a lot more of what he offers. https://www.facebook.com/jeffspencekustom/?__xts__[0]=68.ARBhI_7e03AvEz6myAdvYZm5YkWXgU7bD0_prHM8aZzxKKjhD_XsE9V72RykQ_8XcAI27EjQup0mtI7yC1sDFwVK1nMv-XvUekrjubQOLTEdBaSy8rx0NCCG24E_85gZmB-JKB8jvImqB6n3eoJrOLXr9YN5W665k9RBtBV5FiWeUkmww5ZZ56nXQ8hk0cinUbTXodDuKhUS9ai4YJQp9J1_x6AeMOoVQO-YMzwr-WrGOVdjeGSilgA-dtXQ7WE3ecIvYu1w93teKkISul26YT4GKCNKN-6mS40RyMIW63nXOykINNg

His 8-3/7 x 1 inch deep for 7 inch lights should just come out even with the edge of the bulb much like welding a plain healight ring on a fender.

Those rings should end up looking pretty close to the ones on Paul Harper's 41 Ford. https://hosting.photobucket.com/albu...05RUN001-1.jpg
I can't find a photo of an AD truck with the look.

This burgundy 41 that was at the same event in 2005 had 53 Merc headlight rings to show the difference.

Purple AD panel with the Merc rings at the same event https://hosting.photobucket.com/albu...YN05RUN016.jpg

Or what about a 55 Chevy car ring and eyebrow that you can buy as a patch panel.

Thanks Mr48. That shows what I was looking for. I like them with the Merc rings. I'm going to look into that.

I'd check with Jeff Spence about his even though they seem a tad spendy. Original Merc rings have the stainless inner ring held in with little W clips that I have yet to figure out how you out them in after you weld the rings on the fenders and paint the fenders. That has been a battle for me for years on end. If someone has a solution I'd sure like to hear it as I have spent many hours trying to figure it out.

Skip99, do you have a side pic you can share? I'll look at your thread again to see how you did it.

I started with Merc rings also, but cut them down to where I like them. I did not use the chrome inner ring. Original headlight buckets mount from behind with standoffs to space them proper.

Thanks, I was looking at something like that too.

How do you adjust the headlights?

Love the green paint. Awesome color.

The one inch deep ring that Jeff Spence sells will end up pretty well at the same point that JBarron's rings do.

Adjusting is a pain as you put the bucket in from the back when you french the lights.

I've held my stainless inner rings in with screws in the past and was able to remove the inner ring to adjust the lights.

Heres a pic for ideas, but i took my adjusters, drilled the bucket and slotted the screw so i could adjust the lights from behind..
