I looked around at a few sights, didn’t see any, or they too were out of stock.

Look on ebay, there is a company out of Mich. that is making nice insulation for these trucks that is reasonably priced and quick shipping. Let me see if i can find a link.

Did all trucks have this underhood insulation? Or was it similar to the headliner, in that the baseline trim packages skipped it altogether?

Also, what purpose does it serve? Noise control, or protecting the paint?

Mine never had the insulation..I got one off Ebay, free shipping..
I assumed it was for heat and noise...I got it more for the clean look..

I don't think all trucks got the hood insulation. Just in higher trim lines and in trucks with the cold climate package.

Mine is so dirty. I wonder if a flame were to catch it if it would go up in flames. I've thought about taking it out or replacing it.

I wanted OEM also. But this one from Quiet Ride is really nice. The insulation is precut. Some of the holes didn't line up but a drill bit is supplied. $218 shipped.

Were the holes in your hood predrilled at the factory?

Mine was. It was a NOS hood when I bought it.

How close to OEM is it?

My OEM hood insulation is more frayed then what it looks like in the photos. Maybe just because it is well used or maybe because it always has been that way.

My concern with the insulation is that it may fall down or catch on fire. It has never fallen down but just a concern. So people also have mentioned that the hood insulation is a fire blanket but I don't believe it. I wonder if the insulation would catch fire. I should cut off a piece of the OEM and test it.

I would also recommend testing the new repo also to see if it can catch a flame. Just cut off a small square and see what happens.

Does your NOS hood have the front lip? Mid 78 I think the front of the hood changed from a flush front to a front edge that has a lip on the hood. All NOS hoods I've seen have the front lip. A non front lip would have been made before 1978. I'm not sure why GM changed the hood design.

Around 75 bucks shipped

Re: Factory molded hood insulation, where are you buying it?

My 75 hood was factory drilled. The Quietride Acoustihood had about six holes that lined up with holes in the hood. That was enough to line it up properly But I had to drill the rest.
It's not even close to stock. but it's really really nice.
