Side toolbox option?
Are there parts available, Hinges, latch and lock? Or should I just remove and weld in a patch.

Re: Side toolbox option?
Here is the best answer I can give you to bring this too the top for you.
A Great member here on the forum/( Dieselwrencher) has a post in this link below. Link: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...tool+box+parts I suggest to keep an eye on the Parts section. Link:https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...isplay.php?f=8 Every once in a while you can find some on there:chevy: . |
Re: Side toolbox option?
About the only thing I’ve seen reproduced for them is the trim from Mar K. I was able to get a lock set and the lower door opening panel on the parts board. My suggestion is to keep an eye out over there, they don’t come up often but parts to come up. If you ever see a low or no rust door buy it right here right now, it won’t be there when you come back for it. The liners are pretty tough and seem to have mostly weathered the test of time. The doors, hinges and the lower part of the bed side below the door don’t seem to fare near as well. Good luck!

Re: Side toolbox option?
I suggest searching 'toolbox' and browse old threads to see what's been offered, sold, prices, etc.
slowly, but parts will trickle along through here in good time, just have to be patient :) this belongs in the toolbox hall of fame tho :metal: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...olbox+door+nos |

We recently sorted through our extra GM NOS RPO VK2 Tool & Stowage Door parts inventory at the request of another member and currently have some NOS tool door hinges available in the below linked parts board thread. Would need to confirm in the morning, but we should have a good OE used tool door latch and lock setup already pulled and available also. Mel :chevy:

Re: Side toolbox option?
$100/hinge...ouch!
At this price, I would probably just make a set. Piano hinge welded to sheet metal bent into the proper shape. Would not be hard at all if you had a template hinge. I just recently finished rebuilding/restoring my original box door and lower opening. Terrible design by GM causes trapped water and thus rust. The door has no drain holes so water gets trapped inside the door. The bottom of the opening has a double layer for strength that traps dirt and then moisture. Add drain holes and keep the area clean of dirt and mud. |
Re: Side toolbox option?
Lots of information here will restore the old tool box use the rocker panel trick and fabricate new hinges, will try to work in a new lock. I like the info on the NOS door/price, inspired me.

Re: Side toolbox option?
Great pics, I just bought the truck and prev owner took the box all apart so I am trying to figure out how to restore it. Hinges are broken and lock missing and the strip on bottom of bed is rusted badly. However I think it is all fixable.
