Lifting your truck and garage door height
 

I have a 1969 K10 with 2 inch lift and 31 tires. I am thinking about going to 4 inch lift with 33's. Does anyone here have experience with this lift / tire combination and a 7' garage door? Gotta keep the old girl inside

Add 3" to your existing height and see what the total dimension is.
2" of tire + 2" additional lift = 3" overall gain in height.

Ditto on what the previous post said. Though you have to take into account actual previous lift vs new lift and actual tire sizes can vary. I would add at least an inch wiggle room.

Funny story, one time a guy I work with asked for some help putting a lift on his mid 80’s K10 in his garage.He ordered a 4” kit. We put the lift on one Friday evening only realize after we had it together that it was sitting way higher than we anticipated. Checked the part numbers on the springs, sure enough, Sky jacker sent him 6” springs. All he had for it were a set of 35’s as he as replacing an existing worn out 4” block lift that the truck already had. We had to let all the air out of his tires at 2am on Saturday morning to get it out of the garage:lol:

The funny thing about that is before u know it you can’t tie your shoes never mind getting in to the truck

They did the same thing to me. Ordered 4in lift springs and got 6in. They sent the correct ones and gave me shipping labels to send the others back.

I added a 4 inch lift with springs front and back and 15x10 ralley wheels with 35s. I have less than 2 inches between the cab and the garage.http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=725404

My '72 K2400 has 4" lift and 285/75-16s (33"). I built a small garage (12' x 22') as low as possible that it would still fit in, and I plan to go back to 35s. It has a 7'H x 9'W door opening. Fits fine. I can only back it in because there is a beam the cab won't clear at 9' off the back wall.

My 72 K30 has roughly 5" of lift on 33's. I have to dump the rear air suspension to get it in my garage which has a door height of 7'. If it wasn't for the air ride, I'd be stuck working on it outside. I guess it hasn't been in a garage for 3 years or more so does it matter? :lol:

Metric sized 17 in tires, that measure about 33" with a 2-1/2" lift and a 7' door.
I don't think a 4" lift would make it without letting air out of the tires.

38's and a standard 7' garage door... not a lot of room to spare but it goes in just fine.

The ORIs are lowered in this photo, but even at ride height (6" higher) it's still not a problem.

Why not get your tires bought and see how they work with the 2" lift? 33's can be run on a stock height truck. Should fit in the garage still no problem. And if not, a set of 1" zero rates will fix that AND let you move the rear axle back a tick to center the tires in the wheel well.

As far as major social media always was a light user. While I was subscribed to most, all accounts are closed and 100% quit now. If you have time it would be nice to see a bit more about the truck here. Had to look up ORI. Air shocks, right?

HA.... no, the jacuzzi is out in the backyard.

To be clear, the garage most certainly did NOT look like that when I bought this house 4 years ago. It was just a plain-Jane setup with no decent electrical hookups, terrible lighting, no insulation and a ceiling height that would make it impossible to do a lot of the work that needed to be done.

It took about 2 years to get it all put together, and that delayed the actual truck build during that time, but the results were worth it. Now it's a great, comfortable space to work even when the Austin summers are over 100 degrees.

There is a 12-year build thread going over on CK5.com (link in my .sig) if you want to see more details in a "non social media" setting. Over 8000 posts.... 1.5 million views.... and tons of photos of the entire process from 2008 when then all started. I call it the "Might As Well K5" build because every time I would start digging into an issue (rust, etc) I would decide to just keep digging deeper to resolve every other issue I found. It felt like I was so far invested, that it would be silly to ignore issues that I knew were there... so I 'might as well" just spend the extra time to do everything as well as I could.... 12 years later, I'm still saying that same expression to myself but at least now I've reached in as far as possible and am now building my way back OUT!!! :)


BTW -> ORI is not really an air-shock per se... it's a nitrogen charged strut with hydraulic oil in it but charged from an upper and lower chamber to establish desired ride height and spring stiffness. They are pretty slick.

I see you went with sprayed poly foam insulation in your garage. I used to install that stuff in my early 20’s. It works really damn good. Really nice looking garage to compliment the blazer!

Yes. Being a New England guy for many years it was a real shock walking into a non-insulated garage in TX in the summertime!!!!! :devil:...HOT HOT HOT.....:devil:

So.... although it was not part of my budget, a 24K BTU Mini-Split AC unit was also added to the garage in addition to the fully sprayfoamed shell.

It's been a great working environment ever since, but I do wish that it hadn't taken me so long to do all of that renovation work.... I did it all myself, because I'm stubborn and neurotic about the way I want everything to look.
