Porterbuilt Mild DM and Steering Concerns
What’s up guys. I Im having a bit of an issue with my steering setup. I’m currently running a mild / touring drop member from PB along with the mustang rack. The column that was on the truck was way to long to and was just not going to work with the angles needed. I’m not sure if even the IDIDIT 30” column will work. The mild setups tend to use 3 joints and the helm to keep things in place.
I’ve seen a few setups where the columns are really close to the firewall but not sure how short you can actually go with a column shift ?? By it being shorter you can use just 2 joints rather than 3. It seems like things are really tight in that area. I’m waiting on a 30” column to try out. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Porterbuilt Mild DM and Steering Concerns
I cut a 67-72 era auto-tilt column down to length for my 64's set-up. I believe I took 6.25" off the shaft & 4" off the housing.
I cut one down vs guessing on the length to allow just the 2-joint set-up since the Ididit columns had such a hefty price tag & lead time (for delivery; not taking your $$). |
Re: Porterbuilt Mild DM and Steering Concerns
I’ve thought of doing this but not really sure where to start.. We’re you able to keep the column shift ? Looks like I’m going to end up using the Lokar adapter for the 6L90 cable as the rod type doesn’t look like it’s going to work.
The ididit are quite pricey and I’ve been waiting for over a month already .. 😕 Posted via Mobile Device |

4spd auto & yes.... keeping the column shift set-up. I sectioned it & the outer housing both the same amounts.
