My wife will be at work tomorrow. What kind of degreaser should I use to clean engine blocks in her dishwasher?

Re: Parts washer
You laugh, but...
1) I use the oven for applying ceramic coatings. She gets the better end of the deal because I make sure it is spotless inside before putting parts in. 2) An acquaintance used steam from the dryer to help bend wood during a boat rebuild project. I found out because his wife was complaining he would steal dishrags as soon as she used them. "It doesn't make sense to run the dryer with nothing in it." When he got to the point he was washing his socks three times a day for an excuse to run the dryer she finally convinced him to just run it empty. |
Re: Parts washer
our samsung dishwasher cant even wash the dishes clean so the pressure washer and oven cleaner is what I use. have a can of wd40 or some other rust inhibitor spray handy for when you're done washing and wanna keep the machined surfaces rust free. sometimes I use the hot water from the washer connection and a garden hose rated for the temp and that, along with the oven cleaner, works pretty good. the hot water also helps the parts dry quickly. castrol super clean is pretty good for getting the big chunks off just not that great for a polished surface if doing wheels etc. I usually remove all the frost plugs, oil gallery plugs etc first and run a rotary wire brush in the frost plug holes before starting the cleaning process. a rifle barrel cleaner is good for the oil gallery cleaning.

Re: Parts washer
We had a portable dish washer in our old two story house that I had planned to use in the garage when we remodeled the kitchen but we sold the house before we got to that point.
That thing was a pain in the house as you had to roll it over to the sink and hook it up and put the drain hose in the sink and then figure out how you were going to get around it but my wife loved having a dishwasher for the first time. |
Re: Parts washer
I'm putting a dishwasher in my next garage for washing parts and tools. No Joke!
