Name of the ClearCoat
Im about to start refurbishing my trim and plan on using the brush on Clear Coat.
I’ve been going back through all my saved threads and can’t find the one with the name of it. It’s the stuff you put on after the trim is all Polished. Ever shine? Everbrite? Or something like that? |
Re: Name of the ClearCoat
Yep. That was my thread when I restored my truck in 2017.
Protecta clear from everbrite Amazon sells it If I remember right you wipe trim down with denatured alcohol first and foam brush works great It’s pretty thin stuff |
Re: Name of the ClearCoat
That’s it!
I looked it up on Amazon, and thanks for the info. Will the 4oz sized can be enough to coat the side trim AND grille? Or will I need a bigger sized can? |
Re: Name of the ClearCoat
The stuff goes a long way. I think it will do it all. You might want to get yourself a cheap little Harbor Freight detail gun and spray it on.

Re: Name of the ClearCoat
4 oz is plenty. A small amount goes a very long way with this stuff
Foam brush works great and being so thin is lays down great. I’m actually using it to restore trim this month as I’m on the tail end of a ‘67 cougar Restostion. Key is stripping anodizing off and sanding all the way up to 2,000 grit then use mother polish. Clean with alcohol and apply the clear Mark |
Re: Name of the ClearCoat
Many thanks for all the information
Is there anyone out there with the polishing procedure that they can post? |
Re: Name of the ClearCoat
This from the original 2017 post. Also use the search feature on this forum and you may get more info
This is what I did. If you use hair and grease drain opener with a scotch brite pad the anodizing comes off in 5 minutes. Just gloves and Saftey glasses. Nasty stuff but strips it off in no time. Let it set on there for 5 min. Then sand 220 grit all the way up to 1500 grit then buff. I think I sanded 220 320 400 600 1000 1500 Polished with mothers aluminum and mag polish Then coat with protectaclear. It's work but maintence free once coated. Takes about 2 hours. |
