1967 Chevy pickup casket
5 Attachment(s)
My winter project has been repurposing some old bedsides that had lower rust into my future casket. It’s been a little more work than l thought, but it’s coming out like l hoped. Some people think it’s cool and others think it’s morbid. I’m almost done, just need to finish the lids.

I’m humored by the idea, impressed by the novelty and craftsmanship, and perplexed by the motivation.;)
But again, nice work. |

Tomorrow is not a guarantee for any of us. Good for you for planning it the way you want it!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I love it, but as someone that has carried hundreds of caskets, make sure you reinforce the handles more than you think you should. I've had some flimsy ones start to co.e apart while we were carrying them to the graveside.

brake and reverse lights incase your going the wrong direction lol.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That’s way cool. Great workmanship. Just curious if it will be acceptable. With all the laws and such. Now I have a use for the bedsides I have been walking around. I’m seeing options of a cooler also. Again great workmanship

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Awesome work! I’m still a young guy and Hope I won’t need one of those for another 50 years but that is something I’d be honored to be buried in!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That's what is meant by thinking (inside) outside the box. I personally think there is something in the water. Good job, and when the time comes have a good trip.

I'm curious to know the weight compared to a regular casket. I have thought about building mine for quite a while but I was going to use wood with a few of my old silver dollars set into it.. I was going to use it as a curio cabinet in my man cave until I need it. If I'm going to do it I better get on it.... :) LockDoc |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Nice work. Will be cheaper then digging a hole for the whole truck. HAHA

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Make a fiberglass version , I bet they would sell. Heck people would be DYIN' to have one.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I love it!!!
But one issue, it needs a functional tailgate handle and tailgate so that the precious cargo can be loaded correctly. Seriously, I love the idea and imagination into this project. |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Ashes to ashes , Dust to dust , But in that metal box your just gonna rust !

Nice work!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Thanks for the positive comments! I’m 55 and in good health, so I shouldn’t need it for a while. The idea of dying doesn’t scare me since Jesus has me covered, but I do hope to enjoy life for awhile. I looked up the standard casket dimensions online and went off of that (yes, I’ve been in it a few times and it fits nicely:) ).

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Can you open the tailgate from inside?

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
It's amazing how our bed panels lend themselves to a standard look for a casket. Excellent work! If it were a 57 Chevy casket...it would look way too quirky and obvious that it was a dead "car guy", but yours actually looks very traditional. Tastefully done!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
My boys fight over which will get my truck, so I told them I am going to be buried in it to try to end the argument.
They told me they will have me cremated and put the ashes in the ash tray. That way, they can bury me in the truck but still drive it. Ah, filial devotion! |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
So cool! What about finding an old roof skin for the lid? Drip rail and all. That way, you wont get wet if you have an open casket viewing in the rain. Sorry.
