700R4 and TH350 internal parts interchange?
I'm planning to build a TH350 (probably a TH350C) for my 69 C10 and installing a Gear Vendors OD. I currently have a greasy 700R4 from an 88 G-van sitting in the shed, *supposedly* a good used unit. Would it be worth tearing into it to steal any upgrade parts to put in my TH350? I've heard about using a center support from a 700r4 in a TH350 for the wider sprag clutch, are there any other parts worth swapping or would I be better of just selling it as a whole unit and buying new upgrade parts? The truck is a mostly stock 350 and I'm going for just a rock solid daily driver trans, maybe occasional towing and a yearly burnout.

Re: 700R4 and TH350 internal parts interchange?
As far as I know the only thing in common is the spline count on the output shaft. If you are wanting to build a 350c then you need that specific 350 case.

Re: 700R4 and TH350 internal parts interchange?
The low roller clutch and support is wider and does interchange. But I wouldn't tear a unit down to scavenge the part. It takes quite a bit of abuse to make the stock piece fail even in a TH350. Usually the splines in the case fail before the roller clutch.

Re: 700R4 and TH350 internal parts interchange?
why not save some cash and build the 700 ???
you can run a pressure switch fully internal to the 700 to control lock up... my fully swapped 89 (no factory electronics left) works just fine |
Re: 700R4 and TH350 internal parts interchange?
Sounds like a like of work for a mostly stock 350 that won't be beat on or drag raced with sticky tires. A stock th350 will handle that.
